Glock 21

Just "test drove" my new glock 21 .:D
All I can say is; WOW. I think ill put the old 1911 away for good.....
I cant believe the simplicity, accuracy, and capacity(13+1).

Soo much lighter.....black....plastic...neato.

Thanx, you know who, for prodding my reluctant @ss in to modernizing my carry gun.

Here is some info, not sure how much of an issue it really is, but they recommend to use factory ammo.

Welcome to the world of Glock, baby! I'm a very happy owner of a Glock 22.

I've got a Glock 22 .40 and it is a rugged straight-shooter. I got it as a factory-rebuilt police trade-in.

I've also got a Glock 26 9mm compact, but it is less accurate in my hands due to the small grip.

Glock 34 9mm here.

Same size as a service pistol. Very, very accurate guns. As with all Glocks the trigger takes some getting used to, so learn to use the Glock trigger reset properly, it's a bit like DA/SA.. sort of..

When you fire the first shot, you hold the trigger all the way back, slowly release the trigger until you hear a 'click'. That is the Glock trigger reset. You are then ready to make your next shot with a minimal amount of trigger force required. So it's a bit like single-action, except you have to repeat the procedure each time if you want the reset. It would take a lot of practice and skill I think, to utilise this in rapid fire, but I'm sure people do.

The accuracy is down to the long barrel, sight spacing, and the polygonal rifling.

Standard sights are sort of cheap, they work, but I plan to swap them out in time.

I have shot about 1500 re-loaded lead rounds through this gun without an issue, they are however coated with Molybdenum Disulfide, and I clean the barrel regularly.

I would NOT recommend shooting plain lead with no coating as it will rapidly foul the barrel. A lot of Glock's issues have been resolved with the newer guns, they don't tend to fire out of battery for example, case support is about the same on my gun, but I'm not worried as it is a 9mm and the pressures are lower.

For a carry pistol, use top quality jacketed ammo. Cycle the ammo every month or so at a shooting range, to prevent the round changing it's seating in the brass and becoming out of spec, as this may lead to case failure. You will need the practice anyway, and it makes sure your ammo is fresh.

I have a lot of trouble getting good consistency, but I know it's me, and not the gun, as some of my targets tell the tale...

I actually don't mine the 1911A1 too much, I have shot that a couple times. The grip seems a bit short for my liking, and the .45 is skinnier in the grip than the Glock as it is not a double-stack magazine.

What you mean by this (to prevent the round changing it's seating in the brass"? Are you saying this happens when ammo becomes old, so use it up and buy new ones every month?

I have a new glock 19. What do you think of +P ammo?

The correct term I was looking for is bullet set-back. This is really only an issue if you keep a round in the chamber and unload frequently, it also seems to be more of an issue with some rounds than others. This is due to the chambered round perhaps meeting some resistance on the feed-ramp (often related to a poorly cleaned feed-ramp), after constant reloading, the round gets pushed back in the brass, which can lead to case separation.

Always keep that feed-ramp clean, it is THE most important area of the gun to clean in my opinion, and it takes about 5 seconds to polish back up. It is particularly an issue with lead or coated rounds, probably less of an issue with copper. If the ramp is clean, in my experience, the round will seat properly and the gun is going to go Bang!

If your mags have a hard life getting banged around it would also be an issue, which is why you should keep your mags somewhere safe.

However, I think it is a good practice to cycle ammo anyway.

As for +P ammo, your gun must be rated to shoot it. I would use it for carry perhaps, rather than for regular practice just to reduce stresses on the handgun. Apparently from what I've read most of the GLOCK pistols are rated for +P, but you should ensure your particular pistol model can shoot it safely. I'm pretty sure the Glock 19 can handle 9mm +P ammo, but you should check for yourself first, as I would hate for it to blow up or something.

I have a copy of the Glock armourers manual for Glock safe action pistols. (2002 version). I went looking through there for technical data, but it doesn't mention +P ammo in there unfortunately.

Congrats!

If I had a gun, the Glock 21 would be my choice. I am sure that I would love it, as I am sure it would should straight and go bang every time.

Just like if I had some precious metals, they would be silver and gold.

Enjoy!!
